Sokoto State Governor Ousts 15 Traditional Rulers for Insubordination, Land Racketeering

Sokoto State Governor Ahmed Aliyu has removed 15 District heads for alleged insubordination, land racketeering, aiding insecurity, and conversion of public properties. The announcement was made by the Governor’s press secretary, Abubakar Bawa, in a statement released on Tuesday evening.

According to the statement, the dethroned District Heads include Unguwar Lalle, Yabo, Wamakko, Tulluwa, lllela, Dogon Daji, Kebbe, Alkammu, and Giyawa district, among others appointed during the tenure of former Governor Aminu Tambuwal.

Bawa stated, “They were dropped due to the nature of their appointment which was haphazardly done and rejection by their subjects.” Additionally, cases involving District Heads of Isa, Kuchi, Kilgori, and Gagi have been recommended for further investigations.

The Sarkin Yakin Binji was transferred to Bunkari, and the District Head of Sabon Birni was deployed to Gatawa. Seven other District Heads have been retained, including Alhaji Aliyu Abubakar III Churoman Sokoto, Alhaji Ibrahim Dasuki Maccido Barayar Zaki, Abubakar Salame Sarkin Arewan Salame, and Aminu Bello Sarkin Yamman Balle.

The decisions were based on recommendations from the Committee on the Review of Appointments of Traditional Rulers, Renaming of Tertiary Institutions, and the Dissolution of Governing Councils of State Parastatals set up by the state government.
