The Nigeria Customs Service (NCS), Ogun Area 1 command, intercepted 940 rounds of ammunition valued at N557,120,828.00. The NCS revealed that the ammunition was cleverly hidden within sacks of garri and apprehended at the Idiroko border area of the state.

During a press briefing on Friday, Ahmadu Shuaibu, the Area Controller, disclosed that the interception took place on March 14 during routine anti-smuggling operations along the border. Shuaibu mentioned, “We have been tracking this smuggling cartel from Benin Republic for over two weeks.”

He explained that intelligence led them to uncover the smugglers’ tactics to protect their illegal cargo. “Our superior security network aided in the seizure,” Shuaibu stated, noting that the smugglers fled, abandoning the items to avoid arrest.

Additionally, the command seized 123 sacks and 3,172 parcels of cannabis sativa, 380 pieces of donkey skin, 304 bales of used clothes, and 910 cartons of frozen poultry products in recent operations across Ogun’s strategic locations.

Shuaibu emphasized that these interceptions were made possible through the command’s intelligence network and round-the-clock patrols, ensuring no casualties among their personnel. He urged patriotic Nigerians to collaborate in combating the smuggling of harmful substances, light weapons, arms, and ammunition.
