The Federal Government in an attempt towards bolstering healthcare delivery and providing insurance coverage for vulnerable groups, has approved the disbursement of N25 billion from the Basic Healthcare Provision Fund. This allocation is set to benefit the National Primary Health Care Development Agency (NPHCDA) and the National Health Insurance Authority (NHIA), aiming to uplift health services across the nation.
The Coordinating Minister of Health and Social Welfare, Prof Muhammad Ali Pate, underscored the importance of these funds in expanding primary healthcare and improving social outcomes. He highlighted the inauguration of seven technical working groups to address crucial thematic areas within the health sector.
Prof Pate stated, “We approved the disbursement of N25 billion through the BHCPF channels to the states of the Federation via the NPHCDA and NHIA gateways. This direct facility financing and financial protection for the vulnerable population align with our administration’s healthcare aspirations.”
Dr. Muyi Aina, the Executive Director of NPHCDA, elaborated on the disbursement, mentioning that a portion of the N25.8 billion would flow to states, empowering them to enhance primary healthcare facilities. The centralized financing mechanism will target areas of special need, ensuring efficient and impactful healthcare services.
Additionally, the funds allocated to NHIA will play a vital role in safeguarding vulnerable populations nationwide, offering them essential financial protection for healthcare needs.
