Popular cross-dresser Bobrisky, known as Okuneye Idris Olanrewaju, has been arrested in Lagos by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) for naira mutilation, as confirmed by agency spokesman Dele Oyewale.

Oyewale clarified, “It is true our boys arrested him yesterday evening in Lagos for naira abuse. We don’t have anything to do with his lifestyle (being a cross-dresser). He was suspected of committing an economic crime and that was the reason for his arrest.”

This arrest comes shortly after the Nigeria Police Force cited a lack of evidence to apprehend Bobrisky for alleged same-sex activities, dismissing calls for his arrest.

While social media debates and controversies regarding Bobrisky’s lifestyle continue, legal experts emphasize that Nigeria currently lacks specific laws against cross-dressing itself, focusing instead on other economic and social offenses.

Nigeria’s Same-Sex Marriage (Prohibition) Bill, enacted in 2014, criminalizes public displays of same-sex affection, highlighting the complex legal landscape around gender expression and LGBTQ+ rights in the country.
