The Kaduna State chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) announced the suspension of its state women leader, Maryam Suleiman, over allegations of gross misconduct. The decision, signed off by APC’s Badarawa/Malali ward chairman Ali Maishago and secretary Zakkah Bassahuwa in a letter dated March 31st, comes amidst accusations of character defamation against Governor Uba Sani and unauthorized public dissemination of party disputes, particularly those criticizing the governor’s governance.
The suspension, which is indefinite pending further investigations, was prompted by allegations that Suleiman orchestrated an attack on Governor Sani’s political adviser, Manzo Maigari, through hired individuals. This action is cited as a violation of Article 21, 2 (v) of the APC constitution.
The controversy escalated when a video in Hausa featuring Suleiman lambasting Governor Sani’s statements regarding the financial legacy inherited from former governor Nasir El-Rufai surfaced online. Governor Sani had disclosed during a town hall meeting that the present administration was grappling with a substantial debt of $587 million, n85 billion, and numerous contractual liabilities, leading to salary payment delays due to federal allocation deductions.
In her social media video response, the APC women leader accused Governor Sani of mismanagement and urged him to refrain from blaming El-Rufai for the government’s shortcomings. This clash of narratives has intensified political discourse within the Kaduna APC, raising questions about internal unity and leadership accountability.A 87
