Troops from Operation WHIRL PUNCH, part of the Nigerian military, launched a successful raid on a hideout located near Palele in Niger State, targeting terrorists and their logistics suppliers. Acting on credible intelligence indicating the presence of a weapons cache, the troops deployed air assets to eliminate the threats in the area.
According to Edward Gabkwet, spokesman for the Nigerian Air Force, the operation resulted in significant damage to the target area, with a secondary explosion confirming the destruction of arms and ammunition linked to a notorious terrorist kingpin. Gabkwet, an Air Vice Marshal, emphasized that these strikes have substantially weakened the capabilities of terrorist elements in the region, particularly in Kaduna and Niger states.
“These strikes have no doubt degraded the capabilities of terrorist elements operating in the region to attack innocent civilians, especially in Kaduna and Niger states,” said Gabkwet. He further outlined that the NAF, in collaboration with other surface forces, will continue to exert control over areas of concern by enhancing situational awareness, conducting continuous patrols, and targeting terrorist safe havens through interdiction efforts.
