The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Kwara State, under the leadership of the State Chairman, Hon. Isa Adamu Bawa, has officially announced Engr. Sulaiman Bolakale Kawu as the party’s consensus governorship candidate ahead of the 2027 General Elections.
This decision was reached today, May 23, 2026, following extensive consultations with critical stakeholders, party elders, and leading gubernatorial aspirants within the Kwara PDP family.
The announcement was made during a high-level stakeholders’ meeting attended by leaders and representatives of the party across the state, reaffirming the PDP’s enduring commitment to unity, internal democracy, peace, and collective progress.
Speaking on behalf of the leader of the party, Dr. Abubakar Bukola Saraki, Alhaji Kawu Baraje delivered a goodwill message emphasizing that the PDP remains one united family that must continue to work together in peace and harmony. He conveyed Dr. Saraki’s message of unity, understanding, and collective responsibility to all stakeholders present at the gathering.
Also speaking, Mallam Omar Bolaji Gambari, who represented other aspirants, disclosed that it was the collective decision of himself, Professor Ali Ahmad, Barr. Sheni Ibiwoye SAN, and Alhaji Ladi Hassan to present Engr. Sulaiman Bolakale Kawu as their preferred candidate after extensive consultations and careful consideration in the overall interest of the party and Kwara State.
Similarly, Hon. Mashood Mustapha reiterated that the PDP remains one united family, stressing the need for members to continue working together harmoniously to ensure victory for the party and deliver purposeful governance to the people of Kwara State.
The State Chairman of the party, Alhaji Isa Adamu Bawa, also publicly read letters from other aspirants affirming their support for the emergence of Engr. Sulaiman Bolakale Kawu as the party’s consensus candidate.
The party leadership, under the guidance of our leader, Dr. Abubakar Bukola Saraki, once again demonstrated the PDP’s long-standing tradition of decency, maturity, and integrity in handling internal political processes.
In a statement issued after the meeting, the State Assistant Publicity Secretary, Mr. Bashir Ashura, disclosed that the consensus arrangement emerged after broad-based engagements and mutual understanding among party leaders and aspirants, all in the overriding interest of the party and the people of Kwara State.
The party commended all aspirants and stakeholders who made sacrifices and embraced unity by supporting the emergence of a single consensus candidate, describing their actions as a demonstration of loyalty, statesmanship, and commitment to the collective vision of rescuing and repositioning Kwara State.
The PDP further stated that:
“After extensive consultations with stakeholders of the Kwara PDP and our leading gubernatorial aspirants, we have arrived at a consensus candidate to fly the flag of our great party in the forthcoming gubernatorial election.”
The party also wished all members, delegates, and supporters a peaceful, successful, and orderly gubernatorial primary election scheduled for tomorrow.
The PDP remains united, focused, and determined to provide purposeful leadership and restore good governance in Kwara State.
