Tinubu Announces April 7th as National Police Day

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has highlighted a crucial aspect of his administration’s mission to overhaul the Nigeria Police Force (NPF), emphasizing the need for a modern, professional, and accountable institution. Speaking at the Nigeria Police Awards and Commendations ceremony, Tinubu underlined the necessity of reshaping the mentality and capabilities of police officers.

“In our tradition of honouring the police force in the life of this great nation, we have approved the adoption of the first week of April as Police Week,” stated President Tinubu, signifying a pivotal step in recognizing the force’s dedication.

Vice President Kashim Shettima, representing President Tinubu, emphasized the resilience and patriotism of the police force amidst challenging security landscapes. The president’s commitment to comprehensive reforms, including training and capacity-building, aims to equip officers with the skills needed for modern policing challenges.

Acknowledging the sacrifices of exemplary officers, President of the Senate Godswill Akpabio commended the Inspector General of Police (IGP) for his recognition of their hard work. The event also witnessed calls for enhanced welfare and support for police personnel, reflecting a collective effort towards a reformed and efficient police force.
