The National President of the Senior Staff Association of Nigerian Universities (SSANU), Muhammed Ibrahim, along with the association and the Non-Academic Staff Union, have initiated a scheduled seven-day strike starting on Monday. The strike stems from the Federal Government’s failure to address their grievances regarding unfair treatment.

According to Ibrahim, the SSANU members have not received their 2022 arrears, despite President Bola Tinubu’s directive for payment. In an interview on Channels Television’s Morning Show, Ibrahim confirmed the commencement of the strike, stating, “Definitely, it has already started.”

He further elaborated, “As of today (Monday), all our workers in registry, bursary, works and maintenance, security, and students’ affairs have withdrawn their services.” Ibrahim emphasized that this action would continue for the next seven days unless their demands are met.

Expressing disappointment, Ibrahim mentioned that no government representative had engaged in discussions with them. He added that after the seven-day period, the unions would deliberate on their next course of action.
