NLC proposes N709,000 as minimum wage

The Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) has tabled a bold proposal for a new minimum wage, setting it at N709,000 for workers. This announcement came amidst a significant event, the ongoing public hearing on minimum wage, held in Abuja.

Presenting their stance, the Trade Union Congress (TUC) pitched a differing proposal, suggesting N447,000 as the baseline wage for deliberation.

However, in a notable contrast, Kwara, Nasarawa, and Niger states refrained from presenting any definitive figure for consideration in compensating their workforce.

Interestingly, the only state to proffer a distinct proposal was Plateau, advocating for a modest N81,000 to be reviewed as the new national minimum wage.

As discussions continue, the disparity in proposals underscores the complexity of wage negotiations and the diverse economic landscapes across Nigeria.
