The National Identity Management Commission (NIMC) has announced a strategic collaboration with banks for the issuance of the long-awaited national ID card. According to NIMC, applicants will receive their cards through their respective banks, aligning with established protocols for debit/credit card issuance.

In a recent update shared on its official platform, NIMC disclosed its partnership with the Nigerian Interbank Settlement System (NIBSS) to ensure efficient delivery of these ID cards to applicants. “The card will be issued through the applicants’ respective banks in line with existing protocols with the issuance of the Debit/Credit cards,” stated NIMC.

Applicants are advised to request their cards by linking their National Identification Number (NIN) through various channels, including the self-service online portal, NIMC offices, or their banks.

Notably, the national ID card will operate under the AFRIGO card scheme, an indigenous initiative powered by NIBSS, enhancing security and accessibility for cardholders. NIMC further clarified that cardholders can either collect their cards from designated centers or opt for delivery at a specified location, with additional costs covered by the applicants.

This collaboration aims to streamline the ID card issuance process, leveraging the infrastructure and expertise of the banking sector to ensure widespread access and convenience for all applicants.
