The governor of Zamfara State, Dauda Lawal-Dare, has refuted social media reports, claiming that he had declared N9trillion worth of assets to the Code of Conduct Bureau, CCB.

Recall that shortly after Mr Lawal was sworn in, reports emerged that he was the current richest governor in the country after purportedly declaring N9 trillion worth of assets.

But refuting the claim during an interview with RFI Hausa on Thursday, Mr Lawal said the mischievous story was aimed at tarnishing his reputation and character by his political opponents.

The governor said he wished to have the speculated amount to help develop and tackle the challenges facing the state.

He said: “I pray to have that kind of amount quoted. If I had such an amount, all the problems facing Zamfara State would have been over by now. But it is a good prayer they are making for me, and I hope God answers their prayers.

“But it is just a mischief by the opposition, who are trying by all means to tarnish my reputation.

“I have already filled and submitted the form to the CCB, so it is now a public document; anybody who wants to know the worth of my asset can request for it,” he said.
