In a bid to sanitize Nigeria’s Information Technology sector, the Federal Government has directed the Computer Professionals (Registration Council of Nigeria, CPN) to clamp down on unregistered individuals and organizations operating in the IT field. This directive was issued by the Minister of State for Education, Dr Yusuf Sununu, during the 2024 Information Technology Professionals’ Assembly.
Minister Sununu emphasized the importance of proper registration, stating, “The Federal Ministry of Education is conscious of your efforts at enforcing the Act that established CPN by making it mandatory for all individuals and corporate organizations that are practicing Information Technology in Nigeria to be duly registered with CPN.” He highlighted the global standard of regulating professions to weed out quacks and urged CPN to maintain this standard.
Addressing the theme of the IT Assembly, “Artificial Intelligence: An Enabler for Economic Transformation & Sustainable Development,” Minister Sununu underscored IT’s role in actualizing the nation’s development goals, especially amidst rapid technological advancements.
