The Federal Government, through the Ministry of Education, has pledged to root out Nigerians flaunting counterfeit certificates, as revealed by Prof. Tahir Mamman, the Minister of Education, SAN.

During the receipt of the inter-ministerial committee’s report on degree mills, Prof. Mamman expressed deep concern over the revelations, emphasizing the need to collaborate with relevant agencies to cleanse the education sector.

“We can’t let our education system’s integrity be compromised,” said Prof. Mamman. “It’s disheartening to see individuals with fake credentials tarnishing our standards.”

Chairman of the Inter-ministerial Committee, Amin, highlighted the urgent need for intervention, advocating for digital transformation across all educational institutions to enhance monitoring and evaluation.

Amin stressed the necessity for more universities in Nigeria, particularly for PhD training, to deter citizens from seeking dubious qualifications abroad.

The committee recommended strict scrutiny of certificates from suspect institutions, urging the National Universities Commission to fortify oversight, especially for part-time and sandwich programs, to avoid past accreditation lapses.

“We’ve identified the telltale signs of fake degrees,” emphasized Amin, emphasizing the ministry’s responsibility to identify and address fake certificate holders decisively.
