The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has delved into 50 bank accounts while recuperating a staggering N30 billion linked to the suspended Minister of Humanitarian Affairs, Betta Edu. This move is part of an ongoing investigation into alleged money laundering within the ministry.
The revelation came through an exclusive bulletin titled “EFCC Alert,” shedding light on significant arrests, legal actions, and financial recoveries accomplished by the commission in the past month. The bulletin, endorsed by EFCC Chairman Ola Olukoyede and obtained by our correspondent, disclosed that the reclaimed N30 billion now rests in the Federal Government’s treasury.
Olukoyede emphasized, “Our investigations adhere strictly to established laws and regulations. Nigerians should be aware that those implicated are currently under suspension, a decision rooted in our diligent investigations. President Bola Tinubu’s commitment to combating corruption is evident.”
He further elaborated, “Regarding this specific case, our recovery exceeds N30 billion, a significant boost to the Federal Government’s finances. Investigative processes require time; this case commenced less than six weeks ago. Complexities abound, necessitating thoroughness and accuracy. We urge Nigerians to exercise patience as our seasoned professionals delve deep into leads and discoveries.”
“Presently, we’re scrutinizing over 50 bank accounts involved in fund transfers, a task of immense magnitude,” Olukoyede added. “This is a substantial endeavor, not to be underestimated. Our agency manages thousands of ongoing cases, showcasing our commitment to upholding justice and transparency.”
The EFCC’s appeal for a united front against corruption resonated strongly, with Olukoyede stating, “No individual can single-handedly combat corruption. We implore Nigerians to trust in our capabilities. Collaborative efforts from the judiciary and legislature are vital in our anti-corruption crusade.”
He concluded, “Corruption’s detrimental effects are undeniable. We urge Nigerians to align with the truth: corruption is detrimental, and it must be condemned unequivocally. Let’s unite against this common enemy for the betterment of our nation.”
