Edo State’s Chief Judge, Justice Daniel Okungbowa, officially inaugurated Omobayo Godwin, aged 37, as the freshly minted deputy governor of the state. Godwin’s appointment swiftly followed the impeachment of Philip Shaibu by Governor Godwin Obaseki.
The impeachment, propelled by a seven-man investigative panel convened by the Edo State House of Assembly, stemmed from allegations of misconduct against Shaibu. The vote, culminating in Shaibu’s ousting, marked a dramatic turn of events earlier this week, promptly followed by Godwin’s swearing-in ceremony.
In response to his impeachment, Shaibu condemned the process, labeling it a “descent into dictatorship” orchestrated due to his gubernatorial ambitions under the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in the 2024 election.
Godwin, aged 38, brings a wealth of experience to his new role, boasting a B.Eng Degree in Electrical and Electronics Engineering along with an MSc in Public Administration from the University of Benin (UNIBEN). His professional journey includes senior roles at Dresser Wayne West Africa Limited, showcasing his expertise in the South-South region’s operations and his political acumen in local governance
