COVID-19: Ondo Begins Contact Tracing, Set To Pay Health Workers Special Allowance

Ondo State Governor, Arakunrin Oluwarotimi Akeredolu, SAN, on Monday said the State has begun immediate wider processes to trace, isolate and test all primary and secondary contacts of the five new Covid-19 cases in the state in order to curtail further spread of the virus.

Besides, the governor disclosed that the State would soon commence payment of special allowances for health workers.The Governor said the second case receiving treatment at the Infectious Disease Hospital (IDH) has tested negative twice and discharged while the third case has also tested negative in the first round of the tests.

Arakunrin Akeredolu lauded a vigilant landlord for refusing entry of a female tenant who sneaked in from Abuja into the state and also alerted relevant authorities.

The governor said after the woman, who later became the seventh case was acquired and samples taken, the test result obtained yesterday indicated she was positive. He revealed that the fourth and fifth cases were clear evidence of panic, disobedience, lack of discretion and reckless disregard for the well being of others, while the sixth, seventh and eighth cases were regrettable Cases of community transmission whose presence the State were by default.

The Governor, who gave more insight on how the state recorded the new cases, said the fourth and fifth cases are officers of the Nigerian Police Force, serving under the Lagos State Police Command.

He added that the sixth case is a murder suspect who was arrested in Edo State and transferred to Ondo State for trial of crime earlier committed in Ondo State.

While the seventh case was a female civilian who sneaked into the State from Abuja, and the eighth case was discovered in Owo and samples taken were confirmed positive late last night.
