As part of his philanthropic gesture towards the fight against the Covid-19 in Ondo State, Nigerian business mogul and politician, Dr. Jimoh Ibrahim (CFR), has donated N40Million to the state Government.
Ibrahim, who presented the cheque to the state Governor, Arakunrin Oluwarotimi Akeredolu, SAN, on Thursday, at the Government House, Alagbaka, Akure, said the state must as a matter of urgency declare the Covid-19 as a mega project with strategic plans to prevent the spread.
He assured the Governor of total support while hoping that the people will be fair enough to appreciate the efforts of the Governor so far.
Responding, Governor Akeredolu appreciated the gesture while assuring that the money will be spent judiciously on the fight against Covid-19.
The Governor informed that the state has established isolation center in the three senatorial districts of the state, adding that the State will also consider the suggestion of Jimoh Ibrahim by involving big private hospitals at the local governments.
Explaining why he declared dusk – to-dawn curfew, Governor Akeredolu said:”We have a problem that there could be community spreading. Some people prefer beer drinking to their lives. They filled the beer parlors at night and risk spreading potential and that’s why we declared the curfew.’
He said the only way to stop the spread is when the people help themselves and cooperate with the Government on its directive.
“There are reason we take all these actions. We don’t just wake up and issue directives. We are worried about the lives of our people. There is nothing wrong with staying at home for now. We are determined to do our best and work for our dear state.” Akeredolu said.
The Governor called on the people to ensure that the protocol established are followed by regularly washing their hands and applying sanitizers.
