President Muhammadu Buhari is meeting with ministers and other government officials over the ongoing strike action embarked upon by members of the Academic Staff Union of Universities, ASUU.
The meeting is coming two days after the Nigeria Labour Congress, NLC, had issued a notice of a nationwide protest in solidarity with the striking lecturers.
Recall that ASUU had shut down all public universities in the country since February 14 over the federal government’s failure to implement an agreement it entered into with the union.
The verified Twitter page of the federal government posted pictures of the meeting on Tuesday, saying: “President @MBuhari in Consultation with Ministers and other Government Officials over the Lingering ASUU Strike at the State House, Abuja”.
Those in attendance are the Chief of Staff to the President, Ibrahim Gambari; the Minister of Labour and Employment, Chris Ngige; the Minister of Finance, Zainab Ahmed; the Minister of Communications and Digital Economy, Isa Pantami; and the Minister of Education, Adamu Adamu.
