Governor Uba Sani of Kaduna State, in a town hall meeting revealed the staggering debt burden he inherited from the previous administration of Nasir El-Rufai. The governor lamented that the state was grappling with a debt of $587 million, alongside N85 billion and 115 contractual liabilities, significantly impacting the state’s federal allocation.
Addressing a diverse audience comprising traditional rulers, religious leaders, politicians, Organised Labour members, civil society organizations, youths, and women groups, Governor Sani, along with his deputy Hadiza Balarabe, highlighted the challenges and outlined his commitment to steering Kaduna towards progress despite limited resources.
The meeting also featured key presentations, including insights from Commissioner of Finance Shizzer Bada on federal allocation utilization and Budget and Planning counterpart Muktar Ahmed’s analysis of abandoned projects due to contractual liabilities.
Governor Sani underscored the government’s focus on priority areas such as security, housing, education, healthcare, and support for micro, small, and medium enterprises. Despite the daunting financial scenario, he assured the people of his unwavering dedication to advancing the state’s development and prosperity.
“We remain resolute in steering Kaduna State towards progress and sustainable development, despite the inherited debt burden of 587 million Dollars, 85 billion Naira, and 115 Contractual Liabilities. We are conducting a thorough assessment and sharpening our focus accordingly,” Governor Sani affirmed.
