The APC senatorial candidate for Kwara Central, Mallam Saliu Mustapha is reportedly in a dilemma over his relationship with Governor Abdulrahman Abdulrazaq.
Reliable sources from within the camp of Mustapha confided that Turaki (the traditional title of Saliu Mustapha) “believed that Governor Abdulrahman Abdulrazaq supported him to clinch the APC senatorial ticket so as to use his (Saliu Mustapha) goodwill to shore up the governor’s dwindling public image ahead of the 2023 election.”
In my findings, a chieftain of the APC in Kwara who disclosed on condition of anonymity also hinted that Saliu Mustapha has expressed to his close circle that he is worried that Governor Abdulrahman is only using his popularity and may not add any value to his senatorial aspiration.
“I am aware the Turaki is struggling to detach himself from Gov. AA. Since he secured the party”s ticket, he has gone to see so many party and community stakeholders who have told him that they cannot guarantee him their support as long as he is with AA. This has been a challenge for Turaki,” the party chieftain submitted.
Meanwhile, feelers from within the APC are saying that Saliu Mustapha is aware that majority of those presently around the governor are only bidding their time, that it is likely they would support candidates from different political parties in order to spite the governor who many believed has not been fair to those who brought him to power. It’s believed that Mustapha is struggling not to be caught in what an analyst has described as “harmonious grievance” that is building up against Governor Abdulrahman Abdulrazaq.
