A senior commander of the Zamfara State Community Protection Guard (CPG), Aminu Sarkin-Baura, along with another official, lost their lives while bravely defending Tsafe town from a terrorist attack on Monday night. The incident, which occurred during an attempt to repel the terrorists’ assault on the headquarters of Tsafe Local Government Area, has left residents and security forces reeling from the loss.
According to eyewitnesses, the terrorists launched a daring invasion of Tsafe town, kidnapping 14 road construction workers from their residence in Area 2. Mr. Sarkin-Baura and his team, in collaboration with soldiers, responded promptly to a distress call but faced fierce resistance from the attackers, resulting in casualties and the destruction of two operational vehicles belonging to the army and state security guards.
Governor Dauda Lawal expressed his condolences to the families of the deceased and the entire community of Tsafe LGA, acknowledging the valiant efforts of security forces in thwarting the terrorists’ incursion. While mourning the loss of Commander Sarkin-Baura, Governor Lawal reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to addressing the ongoing security challenges in Zamfara State.
The attack in Tsafe comes on the heels of a similar incident in Gidan Zuma, where terrorists killed 11 individuals and abducted 20 others. Zamfara State continues to grapple with the menace of terrorism, with various armed groups operating in the region and posing a constant threat to residents’ safety despite the presence of security personnel.
