Chief Adebayo Adelabu, Minister of Power, has vowed to shatter the longstanding 60-year jinx haunting Nigeria’s power sector during the tenure of the Bola Tinubu administration.
Speaking during a visit from the Senate Committee on Power, chaired by Senator Enyinnaya Abaribe, to the Ministry’s headquarters in Abuja for familiarization and oversight duties, Minister Adelabu outlined the administration’s dedicated efforts towards resolving the sector’s challenges.
Adelabu emphasized, “The steps we are taking in the Ministry of Power are in the right direction. It’s only a matter of time before this crisis is resolved.”
Drawing a parallel with road repairs, Adelabu urged patience and perseverance from stakeholders, likening the current struggles in the power sector to the inconveniences faced during road maintenance. He remarked, “Just as commuters endure road closures and diversions during repairs, they ultimately enjoy smooth rides afterward. Similarly, with power, identified issues must be addressed with resilience and patience.”
The challenges facing the power sector, as highlighted by Adelabu, include liquidity constraints, a significant metering gap, rampant electricity theft, vandalism of power equipment, funding inadequacies, operational structure limitations, and frequent grid collapses.
With a focused approach and a call for patience, Minister Adelabu remains optimistic about achieving substantial improvements in Nigeria’s power sector under the leadership of Bola Tinubu.tThe i
