President Bola Tinubu declared a strategic shift in national education policy, focusing on skills, technology, and vocational training to bolster employment opportunities across Nigeria. Speaking at the 38th to 41st convocation ceremonies at Usman DanFodio University, Sokoto, Tinubu, represented by Education Minister Prof. Tahir Mamman, emphasized a comprehensive approach to education that aligns with economic needs.

Tinubu’s vision includes creating skills and innovation hubs in polytechnics and entrepreneurship centers nationwide, signaling a substantial investment in equipping graduates for modern job markets. He underscored the government’s commitment to enhancing public universities through increased funding and technological advancements.

“We strongly believe that our survival can always be assured by the qualities of human capital development,” Tinubu stated, highlighting education as a top priority. He outlined plans for vocational schools in secondary education, private sector innovation centers, and significant infrastructure upgrades in universities.

Additionally, Tinubu’s administration aims to redefine universities’ roles, urging them to drive poverty reduction, employment creation, and sustainable development. Notably, the president hinted at forthcoming student loan schemes, enhancing access to higher education.

The president’s remarks received praise from stakeholders, including Usman DanFodio University’s Vice Chancellor, Prof. Bilbis Suleiman Lawal, and Sokoto State Governor Ahmed Aliyu Sokoto. Governor Sokoto pledged support for the university’s infrastructure and student welfare, showcasing collaborative efforts for educational advancement.

Eminent figures, including the Emir of Bichi and Prof. Toyin Falola, were honored during the ceremony, symbolizing a collective commitment to educational excellence and national development. President Tinubu’s strategic agenda marks a pivotal step towards a more skilled, innovative, and job-ready workforce in Nigeria.
