President Bola Tinubu emphasized the urgency of global cooperation in combating terrorism and violent extremism during a meeting with envoys from Pakistan, Greece, and Egypt at the State House in Abuja on Friday.
Tinubu stressed Nigeria’s pivotal role as a bastion of peace in Africa, reaffirming the nation’s commitment to being a stabilizing force on the continent.
In his remarks, Tinubu highlighted the importance of collaboration and exchange of ideas to tackle extremism: “We must do more to stop extremists. We need to enhance our collaboration and exchange of ideas and knowledge in these areas.”
The President also acknowledged the crucial role of military backgrounds in fostering security and defense cooperation. He described the envoys’ military backgrounds as invaluable for exchanging ideas to expand security and defense cooperation.
During the meeting with Ambassador Mohamed Ahmed of Egypt, Tinubu emphasized the shared commitment to promoting global peace and stability through collaboration within international organizations like the United Nations.
The discussions also touched on key regional priorities, including the situation in the Sahel and Sudan, with Tinubu acknowledging Egypt’s efforts toward a truce in the Gaza crisis: “We need to do more. Stability in the region is of paramount importance.”
In a separate meeting with Ambassador Athanasios Kotsionis of Greece, President Tinubu reiterated his administration’s commitment to an open-door policy encouraging collaboration and progress.
Tinubu emphasized historic ties and shared priorities with Greece, including promoting democracy and fostering socio-economic growth and development. He expressed optimism for improved relations and cooperation between Nigeria and Greece, aiming for mutual benefit and strengthened bilateral ties.
