APC Senatorial Candidate for Kwara Central Saliu Mustapha on Monday, failed to attend the debate organized by the Kwara State NUJ Correspondent chapel for Kwara Central Senatorial Candidates.
The debate which is the first in its series, titled “The GREAT DEBATE” was held at the Africa People’s Hall, GRA Ilorin.
While Saliu Mustapha was conspicuously absent, candidates of the PDP, Mallam Bolaji Abdullahi, his Labour Party Counterpart, Faruq Akanbi, SDP Candidate, Dr Aiye Labegan, and NNPP Kayode Abdullahi Goga.
All the candidates seized the opportunity of the debate, to share their plans, Programmes and policy direction for the people of Kwara Central.
The debate was conducted under an atmosphere of mutual respect among all the aspirants.
All the people who spoke to our correspondent at the event, expressed their disappointment and condemned the APC Candidate, Saliu Mustapha, for failing to attend the debate.
They described his absence as an insult to the NUJ and the collective intelligence of the people of Kwara Central.
One of those who spoke with Daily Reporters, Kazeem Aluko said “we are not surprised that Saliu failed to attend the debate, it was predicted. He thinks everything is about money, since they are not sharing money here, he nothing else to offer. The people of Kwara Central will reject him at the polls.”
One of the Journalists who spoke on condition of annonymity, said the NUJ feels insulted by Saliu Mustapha’s absence.
He said Saliu has become notorious for hiding from the media and dodging public engagement, “as a body, we know what to do, we would reciprocate the respect that the candidates that are present here have shown us, by promoting their policies.
We would guide the people to ensure they do not make the mistake of voting people whose only credential is that they have money, the truth is that Saliu does not have any plan for the people, he just wants to be Senator because he has money”. The journalist said.
