Senator Oluremi Tinubu, Nigeria’s First Lady, has bolstered the agricultural sector by disbursing N60 million to 120 women farmers in the South West. This initiative, part of the 2024 Renewed Hope Initiative Women Agricultural Support Programme, aims to enhance food security while supporting women entrepreneurs in farming across the nation.
During the launch event at June 12 Cultural Center in Kuto, Abeokuta, Senator Tinubu highlighted the program’s expansion to the South East, emphasizing its goal to uplift farmers nationwide. She expressed, “Today, we are supporting 20 women per state in the South-West with the sum of N500,000 each.”
Mrs. Tinubu presented N10 million cheques to each of the six South-West states for disbursement to the selected women farmers. Additionally, under the Renewed Hope Initiative, she announced a cash grant of N100,000 each for 100 people with disabilities in Ogun State.
Governor Dapo Abiodun praised the initiative as a testament to visionary leadership, acknowledging the crucial role women play in agriculture. Mrs. Bamidele Abiodun commended the program’s impact on food production and urged support for people with disabilities.
The event, attended by dignitaries including South-West governors’ wives and the Senate President’s wife, also featured the distribution of farming inputs to over 2000 farmers in Ogun State for the upcoming planting season.
