The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) reconciliation committee met with the former military head of state, General Ibrahim Badamasi Babangida at his hilltop residence in Minna on Friday.
The Committee led by former Senate President, Dr Abubakar Bukola Saraki, were in close door meeting with the former head of state General Ibrahim Babangida.
The Committee later proceeded to the resident of General Abdulsalam Abubakar at resident also in Minna for a private non political courtesy visit.
Speaking after their meeting with IBB, leader of the committee said the visit was the continuation of their ongoing reconciliation of aggrieved members of the party and that IBB was briefed about the steps taken by the committee so far in reconciling aggrieved individuals within the party.
“We are here as members of the PDP reconciliation and Strategic committee as part of our nationwide consultation with our leaders which we started at the beginning of the week.
“We planned to start with former Presidents and founding Fathers of PDP. General Babangida is one of the founding fathers of PDP and someone we all respect. We briefed him on the steps taken and efforts made in reconciliation of the party members. We seek for his support, advice and guidance”, Saraki said.
The committee noted that it was committed to ensuring lasting peace and restored the internal democracy of the party.
Saraki then appealed to members of the PDP to have faith in the committee and their recommendations adding that they will not allow the recommendation to be tampered with.
“The committee is committed and we are working to ensure our recommendation are kept. We won’t allow anyone to tamper with our recommendation. We will ensure that there are fairness and equity.” he said
He assured members of the PDP that the committee would do a job in reconciling members that they will be proud of.
“We appeal to our members to keep their faith in us, give the opportunity for us to finish our work. Those who are aggrieved should be patient, we will get to them. We are confident that we will do a job that they will be proud of and we will ensure that our recommendation is implemented.”
The Committee also commiserate with the people and government of Niger state as it described the incident of the kidnapped as unfortunate and called on security agencies to rescue them urgently.
Other members of the committee present at the meeting are former Cross Rivers state Governor, Senator Liyel Imoke, former Gombe state Governor, Ibrahim Dankwabo, former governor of Niger state, Aliyu Babangida Muazu, former governor of Katsina state, Ibrahim Shema among others.
