Oyo Assembly Will Make Punishment for Rapists, Sexual Violence Harsher

Following the reported gang rape and murder of 18th year old Barakat Bello in Akinyele area, Oyo State House of Assembly, is set to revisit existing laws on sexual violence and input harsher punishments.

Presently, the bill on sexual offences against children has passed second reading and the committee in charge is working out necessary adjustment for it third reading.

Rape victims should please speak out, because a rapist should not be free while you live with lifetime pain. A woman’s NO should means NO, whether she’s drunk or she’s a maid.

I commend Oyo State Police Command, especially the Commissioner of Police, Nwachukwu Enwonwu who just relocated his office to Akinyele local government and vowed to work harmoniously to ensure the arrest of killers of a pregnant woman, Azeezat Shomuyiwa and an 18-year-old student of Federal College of Animal Health and Production, Barakat Bello.

We assure them our absolute support and swift response whenever we’re needed for the safety of our people.
