Niger state governor, Mohammed Umar Bago, has greenlit the disbursement of a N20,000 wage award for all civil servants across the state. This decision, catalyzed by President Bola Tinubu’s plea to state administrations, aims to alleviate the economic burdens experienced by the populace.
President Tinubu’s call for state governments to implement the wage award, pending the determination of a new minimum wage, resonated strongly during his visit to Minna on Monday, March 11. Commemorating the inauguration of the revamped domestic terminal of the Bola Ahmed Tinubu International Airport Minna and Governor Mohammed Umar Bago’s expansive agricultural mechanization initiative, Tinubu emphasized the urgency of this financial relief measure. He stressed that widespread adoption of the wage award by states would mitigate economic strains without fueling inflationary pressures.
Tinubu underscored the significance of all states embracing the wage award, indicating that the National Executive Council would endorse this approach. He articulated, “If all of you, the sub-nationals have been paying the wages award, pending the determination of the new salary wage. Let all the state start paying the wages award. Whatever they are taking now plus the wage award would relieve the public.”
