The Kwara State Government has taken a significant step towards economic development by acquiring 20,065 hectares of land for the ambitious Ilorin SmartCity Estate project. This move is aimed at creating a modern urban center that will house essential facilities like housing estates, schools, hospitals, markets, police stations, fire services, stadiums, and more.
The Executive Chairman of the Kwara State Geographic Information Service (KW-GIS), ESV Abdulkareem Babatunde Sulyman, highlighted the economic importance of this project during a meeting with the Emir of Ilorin, Alhaji (Dr) Ibrahim Zulu Gambari (CON).
Sulyman emphasized that the SmartCity Estate would not only provide vital infrastructure but also support job creation for the state’s youth population. The project includes plans for 1000 Federal Renewed Hope housing estates and the phase two Industrial Park, signaling a significant boost to the region’s industrial and residential sectors.
Addressing concerns about existing communities on the acquired land, Sulyman reassured that they would be integrated into the SmartCity project for further development, with full compensation and support for their claims.
Expressing his support for the project, Emir Zulu Gambari pledged to mobilize traditional leaders to back Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq’s vision for enhancing the state’s progress. He offered prayers for the success of the governor and his administration throughout their tenure.
The Ilorin SmartCity Estate project represents a strategic investment by the Kwara State Government, poised to stimulate economic growth, create employment opportunities, and improve infrastructure for the benefit of all residents.
