The House of Representatives has congratulated the President-elect, Asiwaju Ahmed Bola Tinubu, on his victory at last Saturday’s presidential poll.

Tinubu’s victory was applauded on the floor of the House in Abuja during Wednesday’s plenary.

The Deputy Speaker, Rep. Ahmed Idris Wase, who presided over proceedings in the absence of the Speaker, Rep. Femi Gbajabiamila, congratulated Tinubu in a brief remark.

Tinubu bore the flag of the ruling All Progressives Congress at the poll, defeating his major rivals—former Vice President Atiku Abubakar of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP); former Anambra State Governor, Mr. Peter Obi of the Labour Party (LP); and former Kano State Governor of the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP), Senator Rabiyu Musa Kwankwaso—in the results declared by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) on Wednesday morning.

Speaking and expressing appreciation for Tinubu’s victory, the Deputy Speaker stated, “I wish to congratulate my friend and brother, Asiwaju Ahmed Bola Tinubu.”

This received a thunderous reaction from the floor.

He also thanked INEC for doing “a very wonderful and good job”, adding that the umpire’s resoluteness “speaks to the credibility of the election.”

Wase, responding to a mild protestation by a handful of opposition voices on the floor, advised them to follow the due process by approaching the Supreme Court to register their grievances.

The House later adjourned proceedings to March 14, to resume after the governorship and state Houses of Assembly elections.
