The governor of Ogun State, Prince Dapo Abiodun has reiterated his commitment to constructing approximately 10,000 housing units before the end of his tenure. The governor disclosed that over 4,000 houses have already been built across the state, showcasing a significant stride in housing development.

During a meeting with Mr. Oyetunde Oladimeji Ojo, Managing Director of the Federal Housing Authority (FHA), Governor Abiodun emphasized the importance of affordable housing despite rising building material costs. He stated, “To date, we have built about 4,000 affordable houses within four years, and we are still building. By the time I’m done, we will probably build about 10,000 houses.”

Highlighting ongoing projects, Governor Abiodun mentioned the “Civil Servants Village,” a 50-hectare land initiative aimed at providing housing opportunities for state workers to purchase land and build their homes.

Governor Abiodun addressed past housing challenges, mentioning previous estates that became havens for miscreants due to poor planning. He emphasized the need for consultation and matching housing designs with community needs, showcasing successes in Abeokuta with houses selling between N5 million-N6 million.

Housing, described as a key employment generator and integral to Sustainable Development Goals, received endorsement from Governor Abiodun, who pledged support for President Bola Tinubu’s affordable housing initiatives. He also announced plans for online property acquisition for Nigerians in diaspora.

In response, Mr. Oladimeji Ojo praised the state’s housing delivery schemes and outlined FHA’s plans for affordable housing nationwide, including studio apartments for youths and digitalization for diaspora property purchases, signaling a collaborative effort between federal and state entities in addressing Nigeria’s housing needs.dapo
