Governor Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri Friday laid the groundwork for a world-class public health laboratory at the State Specialist Hospital in Yola.

Speaking at the ceremony, Governor Fintiri stated that the massive project will improve the quality of diagnosis by health professionals, as Adamawa, like the rest of Nigeria, has seen a number of disease outbreaks.

He stated that the Public Health Laboratory is without a doubt an essential component of improving health response, particularly in this age of growing epidemics and an increase in complex ailments that were previously unknown to people.

The Governor stated that work has advanced in the four brand new Cottage hospitals being built in Gombi, Girei, Shelleng, and Lamurde, while major renovations and expansions are ongoing in all of the State’s General Hospitals.

He revealed that the government has finalized plans to build more Cottage hospitals in Demsa and Mayo-Belwa, as well as to complete the one in Dumne, which has been abandoned for more than three decades.

Professor Abdullahi Isa, Commissioner of Health and Human Development, stated in his welcome remarks that the state has had its fair share of diseases such as monkeypox, Lassa fever, and COVID-19, among others.

In his remarks, Doctor Dauda Wadinga, Medical Director, State Specialist Hospital Yola, praised Governor Fintiri for ensuring long-term development in the health sector that will benefit the entire society.

Alhaji Inuwa Baba Paris, the District Head of Jimeta, praised Governor Fintiri for providing the state-of-the-art laboratory, which he said will save Adamawa residents from having to travel out of the state for medical attention.

Deputy Governor Chief Crowther Seth, Chief of Staff Professor Maxwell Gidado, members of the state Assembly and Commissioners, as well as other top government officials, attended the event.
