Gombe State Governor, Alhaji Muhammadu Inuwa Yahaya has been honoured with a fellowship award by the Fisheries Society of Nigeria ( FISON) in recognition of his remarkable achievements and giant strides in improving aquaculture and food security in general.
The award was presented to Governor Inuwa Yahaya during the Annual Conference of Fisheries Society of Nigeria (FISON) in Abuja where he was represented by the State Commissioner of Water Resources, Mijinyawa Yahaya.
Speaking shortly after being decorated with the award at the Council Chamber of the Government House, Gombe, Governor Muhammadu Inuwa Yahaya said the honour was for the entire people of the State.
He said, “I feel so much obliged to thank the Fisheries Society of Nigeria for the honour and I pray that we work assiduously to ensure that the objectives for which the Society was established are actualized not only in Gombe State but in Nigeria at large”.
Governor Yahaya said the award will spur his administration to work more diligently to ensure that the water bodies that are available in Gombe, especially the Dadin kowa and Balanga Dams are utilized properly and effectively for the improvement of the Nigerian aquatics industry, food security and the lives of the people.
Fisheries Society of Nigeria (FISON) is a professional organization of all fisheries practitioners. It is responsible for promoting and coordinating activities in the Fisheries sub sector of the Nigerian economy and has continued to champion the course of fisheries research and development, human resource capacity building.
