Ahead of the gubernatorial primary election of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), the immediate past Deputy Governor of Zamfara State Barrister Mahdi Aliyu Gusau has stepped down from the race.

He announced this in a statement signed by his Principal Secretary Umar Aminu in Gusau, the Zamfara State capital on Wednesday.

Mahdi Gusau urged the delegates, party leaders, and his supporters to vote for Dr. Lawal Dauda to emerge as the governorship candidate of the PDP in Zamfara State.

No reason was given for the decision. Barrister Mahdi Aliyu Gusau was impeached as Zamfara State Deputy Governor in February this year.
