the Federal Government has approved the disbursement of N25 billion through the Basic Health Care Provision Fund (BHCPF). This announcement was made by Prof. Muhammed Pate, the Coordinating Minister of Health and Social Welfare, during the sixth meeting of the BHCPF Ministerial Oversight Committee held in Abuja.

Prof. Pate highlighted that the allocated funds, designated for direct facility financing and workforce incentives, align with President Bola Tinubu’s commitment to improving healthcare outcomes for Nigerian women, children, and vulnerable populations.

“The substantial investment underscores our dedication to enhancing healthcare infrastructure and supporting our healthcare workforce,” Prof. Pate stated. He further emphasized that part of the funds would provide financial protection for the most vulnerable populations, ensuring equitable access to healthcare services.

To ensure transparent fund utilization, the minister announced the establishment of a dedicated reporting mechanism, encouraging citizens to report any misuse or deviation from guidelines regarding fund disbursement.

Dr. Oyebanji Filani, speaking on behalf of Commissioners for Health and Human Services, expressed commitment to prioritizing the quality of care provided to Nigerians, strengthening public health units, and supporting frontline health workers.

Dr. Muyi Aina, Executive Director of the National Primary Health Care Development Agency (NPHCDA), outlined initiatives focused on accountability and service delivery enhancement, including leveraging software technology to track expenditure at the facility level.

Dr. Kelechi Ohiri, Director-General of the National Health Insurance Authority (NHIA), emphasized the importance of reducing out-of-pocket payments for healthcare services, ensuring financial access to healthcare for all Nigerians.
