The Federal Capital Territory minister of state, Mariya Mahmoud, recently inaugurated the construction of a state-of-the-art 618-shop modern market; marking a significant development for Zuba, Gwagwalada Area Council. This project, undertaken by Khuntex Engineering Company Ltd. under a public-private partnership (PPP) agreement, is poised to revolutionize the local economy and uplift rural livelihoods.
During the inauguration ceremony on Saturday, Minister Mariya Mahmoud emphasized the strategic importance of this venture, stating, “The market will be constructed through a PPP arrangement, with the Area Council providing the land and Khuntex funding the construction entirely.” She further detailed the timeline, noting that the project would be completed in two phases over 20 months, contributing significantly to economic resilience and social inclusion.
Highlighting the broader impact, Minister Mahmoud underlined, “This market will create employment opportunities, boost income levels, and promote skill development among rural youths.” She underscored the commitment of the FCT Administration to infrastructure development, aligning with President Bola Tinubu’s ‘Renewed Hope’ agenda.
The project’s significance was echoed by Gwagwalada Area Council Chairman Abubakar Giri, who emphasized its potential to enhance the council’s revenue base. Meanwhile, Dayo Jigan, Chairman and CEO of Khuntex Engineering Company, assured that the first phase of 250 shop units would be completed within 10 months, incorporating modern facilities and amenities such as eateries, banking halls, police posts, and public toilets to meet global standards.
