In a move towards enhancing educational access and excellence, the Bauchi State Government, facilitated by the Ministry of Education, has disbursed N396.9 million to cover examination fees for 14,170 SS3 students across public schools in the state for the 2023/2024 academic session.

Commissioner for Education, Jamila Mohammed Dahiru, announced this development during a press briefing, highlighting Governor Bala Mohammed’s commitment to prioritizing education. The funds will cover fees for examinations conducted by the West African Examination Council (WAEC), National Examination Council (NECO), and National Board for Arabic and Islamic Studies (NBAIS). Additionally, outstanding debts of over N800 million from previous administrations were cleared to ensure the continuation of down payments for examination fees since 2020.

Dahiru emphasized the government’s dedication to educational excellence by extending fee coverage to all indexed students who passed the aptitude test held by the Ministry of Education on February 1, 2024. She stated, “This initiative aims to ensure that students are suitably prepared to excel in their external examinations, thus promoting quality education across the state.”

Furthermore, Dahiru revealed that the government’s generosity extended to covering Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) examination fees totaling N9.5 million for 1,542 students exhibiting outstanding performance during the aptitude test.

The Bauchi State Government’s proactive measures in investing in education underscore its commitment to fostering a conducive learning environment and empowering students to achieve academic success. This initiative not only alleviates financial burdens on students and their families but also reinforces the state’s dedication to educational advancement and human capital development.
