Anambra State Governor, Chukwuma Soludo, disclosed his decision to neglect road repairs in opposition strongholds, prioritizing infrastructure development in alignment with his party, All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA).
During the inauguration of 12km of roads in Okpoko, Governor Soludo justified his actions, stating, “I rejected the advice to develop Nwokedi Street because the House member representing the area was formerly in the opposition.” He further elaborated, “As of the time he brought the poor state of the road to my attention and advised it should be repaired, he was in the opposition then, and I did not listen to him.”
Acknowledging the poor conditions of these roads, Governor Soludo admitted to declining calls for repairs due to the political affiliations of lawmakers from those constituencies. However, he emphasized that the recent infrastructure developments were initiated following the political realignment of these politicians into APGA.
“Today, Noble Igwe is in our party, and he is a mainstream member, so we have listened to him,” Governor Soludo remarked. “When he was in the opposition, he was in the parlour talking but his voice could not be heard. But today, he is not only a mainstream member of our party, but he is right in the bedroom talking with us.”
This revelation by Governor Soludo coincides with his second anniversary in office. Reflecting on his tenure, he highlighted that the state had not incurred any debts under his administration, and neither had he drawn a salary from the state nor provided an official car for his wife.
Governor Soludo’s stance on road repairs and his administration’s fiscal responsibility have stirred discussions regarding governance and political dynamics in Anambra State.
