Abubakar Y. Suleiman has reclaimed his position as Speaker of the Bauchi State House of Assembly. This comes on the heels of Speaker Babayo Akuyam’s unexpected resignation during Wednesday’s plenary session.
Furthermore, the Deputy Speaker stepped down to pave the way for the return of former Deputy Speaker Jamilu Umar Dahiru. Both Suleiman and Dahiru were reinstated after winning a rerun election last month, following their removal by the Court of Appeal.
Suleiman, who also represents Hardawa Constituency, expressed gratitude to his colleagues and assembly staff for their support during his previous tenure.
The outgoing Speaker and Deputy Speaker cited an agreement among lawmakers as the reason for their resignations, ensuring a smooth transition of power.
In his acceptance speech, Speaker Suleiman commended his predecessors for their maturity and pledged to continue enacting legislation to improve the lives of Bauchi State residents.
Last year, the Appeal Court nullified the elections of four assembly members, triggering reruns in select polling units across various constituencies
