The Federal Government has fined a United Kingdom-based airline, Flairjet, N1million for violating civil aviation regulations.
Flairjet was given approval to operate humanitarian flight by the Federal Government due to the ban on commercial flights but the company flouted the license.
The Minister of Aviation, Hadi Sirika, had announced last week via his verified twitter handle, @hadisirika announced the aircraft belonging to the airline was impounded for operating commercial flights into Muritala Muhammed International Airport, Lagos.
The Minister had also promised the Federal Government would apply everything in the law to ensure speedy and accurate investigation of the matter.
Giving an update on the matter, the Minister on Sunday via his twitter handle announced the airline was fined N500,000 each for violating aviation regulations.
Sirika also noted they were reported to United Kingdom Civil Aviation Authority, Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MFA) and the United Kingdom Commission.
His tweet reads: “Flairjet were found to violate our civil aviation regulations IS 1.3.3 (a) Table 2 (IV) 7 (a) IS 1.3.3(a) Table 2(VIII)(4). The maximum penalty for each is N500,000:00k. We caused them to pay and reported their callous misdemeanor to UK CAA, MFA and the UK High Commission.”
The Nation recalls the pilots of the airline who operated the flight were also placed under 14-day quarantine in Lagos.
