The Lagos State Commissioner for Wealth Creation and Employment, Mrs. Yetunde Arobieke, has assured members of the informal sector of continued support from the government, acknowledging the vital role of the sector in the economic advancement of the State.

The Commissioner gave the assurance following the completion of the distribution of the State Government’s relief packages to members of the informal sector in Lagos.

Arobieke stated that the gesture is in fulfilment of the policy of government to provide welfare packages to the vulnerable and less privileged, assuring that the present administration will continue to partner with the sector to boost the economy of Lagos State.

According to her, the rationale behind the relief materials was to help minimise the impact of the lockdown directive instituted to curb the spread of the Coronavirus pandemic and provide emergency food solutions to the members and their respective households.

She, however, urged the members and the general public to comply with the prevailing stay-at-home directive as well as embrace regular handwashing with soap and running water while also observing social distancing.

Meanwhile, the Lagos State Council for Tradesmen and Artisans, LASCOTA, has commended the State Government for the strategy adopted in the distribution of relief materials to its members across the State.

The President of the Association in Lagos, Alhaji Nurudeen Buhari, who gave the commendation, when he led other executives to distribute the Food Relief Package to their members at Ogudu and Agboyi- Ketu areas of the State, said that the gesture would assist in easing the difficulties faced by its members during this period.

He described the gesture as historic since the existence of the Association and formation of the informal sector under the State Ministry of Wealth Creation and Employment, noting that they had never been so recognised by any State Government.
