The Nigeria Governors’ Forum (NGF) Chairman and Kwara State Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq on Thursday pledged the support of the 36 governors for the federal government Nutrition 774 Initiative at the National Economic Council (NEC) meeting chaired by Vice President Senator Kashim Shettima at the Council Chamber, Presidential Villa, Abuja.
The Vice President who officially launched the Nutrition 774 Initiative at the 148th Meeting of the National Economic Council (NEC), noted that the consequences of malnutrition are far-reaching and transcend the health sector and form the foundation of the calamities that limit productivity, learning and the growth of the country.
“This initiative is, therefore, an invitation to all stakeholders: our governors, ministers, local government chairmen, development partners, and the private sector—to take action. It is also a pledge to the people of Nigeria that we will not stand by while our children suffer the preventable consequences of malnutrition,” the Vice President said.
“Through this initiative, every mother and child—regardless of their location—will have access to lifesaving nutrition interventions tailored to their unique needs,” he added, urging all the governors and other stakeholders to take the initiative seriously, as its success “rests on collaboration and the investments we all make to sustain it.”
Governor AbdulRazaq, who spoke on behalf of the 36 governors in his capacity as the Chairman of the Nigeria Governors’ Forum, assured the federal government that the state governments are ready to and will support the programme in solving the problem of malnutrition in the country, which he also said is affecting the nation’s growth and progress.
