Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri: An Architect Of Mordern Adamawa – Muhammad B Muhammad

The man Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri was born into a humble background in 1967 at Kirchinga, Madagali local government area of Adamawa State.

He attended Central School Gulak and Government Day Secondary Schools Gulak and Michika for his primary and secondary education respectively.

Fintiri holds a Bachelor of Arts in History (Hons) and a post graduate diploma in policy and strategic studies both obtained from University of Maiduguri.

Before venturing into politics, Fintiri was a consummate business man with interests in diverse areas. His passion for the welfare of the people prompted his entry into politics.

He was first elected as member representing Madagali constituency in the Adamawa State House of Assembly in 2007 under the umbrella of the Action Congress after defeating the incumbent.

Fintiri was reelected in 2011 under the PDP. As a result of his outstanding leadership ability, he was elected minority whip, majority leader, deputy speaker and speaker of the Assembly at various times.

On the 15th of July 2014, he became the Acting Governor of Adamawa State for a period of 3 months wherein he distinguished himself by initiating meaningful projects.

Thus, showed his empathy for the plight of the hardworking people of Adamawa State especially workers who were subjected to untold hardship.

Fintiri took a deliberate rest in 2015 to prepare and plan for the opportunity to lay a foundation for Adamawa on which the state can develop in peace and harmony.

During 2019 general elections, he contested for governorship seat under the PDP and won election by defeating the incumbent Governor Bindowo Umaru Jibirilla.

Fintiri was sworn into office on the 29th of May, 2019 as Executive Governor of Adamawa State. Since then, he got into action and changed the fortunates of the state.

Governor Fintiri has within about three years in office has changed the face of Adamawa to what it deserves. He brought massive developments.

The Architect of Mordern Adamawa has shamed the devils and work through his 11- point agenda that ensured even development across Adamawa State.

In the education sector the Governor has relieved parents from paying the mandatory exams fees of WAEC/NECO, introduced free education and awards scholarship to students.

The Governor through the Adamawa State Universal Basic Education Board, Yola paid counterpart funding for 1st – 4th quarters 2016/2017/2018 matching grants.

Thus, he built more than 5000 classrooms in over 400 schools while renovation took place in more than 300 schools across the 21 Local Government Areas.

Not only that, the Governor procured school learning materials, improved on school structures with the construction and rehabilitation of 5000 classrooms within the 21 LGAs of the State.

Health sector, Governor Fintiri approved the upgrade of all general hospitals in the state, he initiated 7 new cottage hospitals that are almost completed.

He also introduced health insurance programme for free medical services to pregnant women, children below the age of five, the aged, displaced persons, and the disabled.

Governor Fintiri procured some basic equipment like the ventilators, Personal Protective Equipment’s (PPE), logistics and staff welfare. Built state-of-the-art laboratory and infectious disease centre.

On Security, Governor Fintiri procured logistics for security agencies, local hunters and vigilantes. This has checkmated the activities Shila boys, kidnappers and farmer-herder conflicts.

When it comes to agriculture, the Governor brought Adamawa Agribusiness Support Programme, procured farm inputs for both wet and dry season farming.

Infrastructure has gotten its share as the Governor has ensured rehabilitation and construction of over 300 township roads both within the state capital and some LGAs and built 2 flyovers in the heart of Yola.

Known as Hasken Toungo, Governor Fintiri connected the area with National grid, the first time since the creation of the Local Government Area more than 15 years ago.

So also, Governor Fintiri has done well in the areas of improving the civil service, training of more than 20,000 of our youths on skills acquisition among other achievements in different sectors.

These and many more qualified Governor Fintiri for second term in office.
