- restates commitment to educational transformation
The Governor of the State of Osun, Adegboyega Oyetola, has called on the newly- graduated students of Osun State University (UNIOSUN) to begin to unleash the skills they acquired in the course of their studies to change the world.
Oyetola said the institution has equipped them with necessary entrepreneurial skills in addition to their courses of study to compete in the knowledge and technology-driven world and to be solutions to the pervasive web of unemployment, economic downturn, violence and misery.
This is even as the Governor reiterated his Administration’s commitment to educational transformation at all levels.
Governor Oyetola spoke at the 10th Convocation of the University held on Tuesday.
Oyetola noted that graduation has offered the graduands the requisite key to employ the character, analytical skills and competencies that the institution has imbued them with to partake in the task of positively impacting their lives and the larger society.
He said: “My dear graduands, as you bask in the euphoria of graduation today, let me remind you that graduation offers you the key to employ the character, analytical skills and competencies that your university has imbued you with to partake in the task of positively impacting your life and the larger society.
“The UNIOSUN brand and the Omoluabi ethos have been blended and carefully ingrained in you to compete in the knowledge and technology-driven world and to be solutions to the pervasive web of unemployment, economic downturn, violence and misery.
“In particular, I urge you to unleash the entrepreneurial skills on the world by looking inward and being self-reliant.
“You must join the corps of young entrepreneurs who are revolutionising the world economy by owning enterprises and creating jobs.
“Throughout your stay as students of this Institution, you have been accorded the rare opportunity of graduating with two certificates: a certificate for your course of study and a certificate for your chosen vocation of study.”
The Governor urged the graduands to access the proposed sizable loan with 1% interest rate payable over a period of five years to start up a business, saying this could make all the difference in their lives.
He said: “Alumni are the strength of academic institutions all over the world and they own their alma maters and work assiduously to make them competitive. I therefore urge you to join UNIOSUN Alumni Association to give back to the Institution that puts the tools for successful and meaningful life and living in your hands.
“The university Management must continue to rally the university community to cultivate the alumni to be useful contributors to the building of the Institution of our dream.”
While extolling the management and staff of the institution for maintaining the academic standards since the establishment of the citadel of knowledge, Oyetola said, “as a government, we shall continue to support UNIOSUN to make it the preferred University through funding under available resources and appointment of quality officials that will deliver university governance for excellent service delivery.”
He congratulated the graduands and their parents for the feat and the new academic attainment.
