Sixteen local government chairmen of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Kwara state, under the aegis of the PDP Local Government Chairmen Forum, Kwara state, on Thursday declared support for Senator Abubakar Bukola Saraki’s 2023 presidential bid.
Speaking with journalists in Ilorin on Thursday, chairman of the forum, Mallam Abdulkadir Issa, on behalf of others, said that Nigeria deserves the best hand to come to the nation’s rescue in 2023.
The group thus implored party leaders across the country, most importantly, the Northern caucuses of the opposition PDP to give the recommendation a thought.
“It is indisputable that our nation deserves the best hand to come to our rescue in 2023. Nigeria is in dire need of a relatively young, exposed and intelligent leader with wealth of experience in governance and public service. No one suitably fits into that puzzle at the moment than Dr. Abubakar Bukola Saraki, who undoubtedly possesses the aforementioned attributes.
“We hereby implore party leaders across the country, most importantly, the Northern caucuses of the PDP to give our recommendation a thought.
“Come to think of it, Senator Saraki’s choice comes at a time that the North Central deserves – more than any geo-political zone – to produce a President. This should be objectively considered and conceded to the zone in order to make the 2023 contest a smooth sail for our party.
“We earnestly believe that our collective push will make it realistic, hence our choice of the smart and intelligent Saraki remains the best”.
The PDP local government chairmen described their declaration on the country’s political future as a way forward for “our dear state and country”.
“You will agree with us that the nation is going through a tough time in every sector. The people cannot sleep with both eyes closed following the high spate of insecurity; the economy is in shambles as daily meal continues to go beyond the reach of the common man. Investors are not willing to come forth while corruption continues to eat deep into the fabrics of the nation. Such is the dire situation we find ourselves today under the All Progressive Congress (APC) led administration.
“This has particularly caused disquiet in the political circle. We are disturbed that if care is not taken, the present government may plunge the nation into further disintegration.
“Our forum, Peoples Democratic Party, PDP Local Government Chairmen in Kwara State, which comprises of 16 local government chairmen of the major opposition party in the state wishes to announce our resolution as follows:
“The forum has thus resolved to declare support for His Excellency, DR ABUBAKAR BUKOLA SARAKI’s 2023 Presidential bid. Without mincing words, we make bold to say that the former Senate President remains the most qualified, competent and credible choice for the party and for Nigeria come 2023.
“This is owing to his unflinching record of performance as President of the Senate, Chairman 8th National Assembly, unprecedented achievements as two term Governor of Kwara State and Chairman of the most impactful Governors’ Forum.
“The two-term Governor who possesses all rudimentary knowledge and understanding to fix Nigeria and we cannot but adopt him as our sole aspirant for the position of Nigeria’s number one citizen.
“Let me state at this juncture that our declaration in support of Dr Abubakar Bukola Saraki’s presidential aspiration in 2023 should not be viewed as no more than this micro community. This declaration will be backed by spirited and vigorous canvassing. We are extending our political advocacy to all local government chairmen of the PDP across the 36 states and 774 local government areas in Nigeria”.
