Kwara State Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq said on Thursday that the excellent appraisals the administration has received on its first anniversary would be a catalyst for a new beginning of better things to come in the next three years.

“The excellent appraisals (from various quarters, especially the masses) are well appreciated. We are indeed proud of what we have been able to do within the last 12 months that are worthy of showcasing. Our achievements become easily noticeable when you see the opposition are now benchmarking our one year with their own 16 years. But I must tell you that much more need to be done. We cannot let down our guards,” AbdulRazaq said at a virtual meeting of the state executive council in Ilorin, the state capital.

The cabinet meeting came barely 24 hours to the first year anniversary of the administration on Friday (today) during which the Governor is billed to speak to the public through a live news briefing across all the local radio stations.

AbdulRazaq, who commended the cabinet members for their focus, also said the state was doing well in the management of the COVID-19 pandemic.

He added however that the rising COVID-19 cases across the country, including Kwara, was partly due to the expanding capacities to test as many samples as possible.

“Even so, we cannot afford to adopt herd mentality in the handling of the pandemic. To flatten the curve, people need to obey regulations and adopt all safety protocols as earlier spelt out. I am happy nevertheless that we are doing very well. Some 45% of our confirmed cases have been managed and discharged in good health,” AbdulRazaq added, saying all the patients still being managed were stable and in good spirit.

The cabinet meeting featured all the 16 commissioners and special advisers who took turns to speak to sectoral achievements in their ministries and commended the Governor for his “purposeful leadership”.

Speaking after the cabinet members had taken the meeting through some of the projects and interventions in their ministries, Secretary to the State Government Prof Mamman Sabah Jibril said not less than 250 high-impact projects have been completed or are ongoing across the state under this administration.

“Your Excellency, we are proud to be part of the historic achievement in just one year and we congratulate you for the purposeful leadership you have offered,” he added.
