All Nigerian workers deserve to be celebrated and despite the very challenging times we all face today, history will forever remember their resilient spirit and dynamic roles, the Deputy President of the Senate, Senator Ovie Omo-Agege has said.

In a May Day statement, the Deputy President of the Senate acknowledged Nigerian workers’ roles since the pro-independence struggles till date.

Noting how profoundly things are changing across the world as a result of the Coronavirus pandemic, Senator Omo-Agege advised that retiring workers with entrepreneurial capabilities can join others in exploring possibilities of starting business through the Central Bank of Nigeria’s N50 billion Agri-Business/Small and Medium Enterprise Investment Scheme (AGSMEISS) loans and those being offered by the Nigeria Incentive-Based Risk Sharing System for Agricultural Lending
(NIRSAL).

“Few come close to the resilient spirit of Nigerian workers whose struggles, toils and sweat have contributed in no small way towards the building of this nation.

“The malevolent Coronavirus pandemic has brought down nations and their economies, with serious negative implications for businesses and statistics on inflation and employment rates.

“Across the world today, many workers can no longer work because of this pandemic, many workers are trudging on heroically and indeed, many workers in the health and other sectors are working assiduously towards saving Nigeria from the ravaging effect of this global problem.

“Today, I salute Nigerian workers and wish you all a Happy Workers’ Day!” he stated.
